Vermouth is a fortified wine that added various kinds of spices that tastes bitter, among others: Artemisia absinthium, anise, quinine, cinnamon, coriander seeds, cloves, quassia, bitter orange peel, and so forth. After going through the stages of processing such as stored and filtered, the result is white vermouth (nodes). The origin of the name vermouth is wermut, German to name plant shrubs A. absinthium.
Vermouth is used as a mixed cocktail or drink as an aperitif. Cinzano, Martini & Rossi and Noilly Prat vermouth are some of the major brands.
Consists of two kinds of vermouth, Italian vermouth (sweet vermouth or red vermouth) and French vermouth (dry vermouth or white vermouth). Italian vermouth slightly reddish in color while the French vermouth slightly yellowish color. In general, Italian vermouth generally contain alcohol content around 16% -18% and sugar content of 4% -16%. Meanwhile, French vermouth contain 18% alcohol content and sugar content of 4%.
